Stitch And Glue Fillet

Stitch and glue is a simple boat building method which uses plywood panels stitched together, usually with copper wire, and glued together with epoxy resin.this type of construction can eliminate much of the need for frames or ribs. plywood panels are cut to shape and stitched together to form an accurate hull shape without the need for forms or special tools.. Watch the stitch and glue construction of a pygmy kayak kit! this video shows how to fillet the bow and stern stem seams and how to reinforce the butt seams with fiberglass tape.. The fillet in a stitch and glue boat helps distribute loads between two plywood panels and serve an important structural purpose. if the fillet is under fiberglass, you may be able to get away with using a non-structural fillet material such as elmers wood filler, but it will likely be a bit fragile..

Hi guys, i've done a lot of boat work on the bigger (30-80 foot) round bottom plank on frame and chine log cold molded boats. i'm new to smaller wooden boats, stitch and glue in particular with a fillet in the corner.. Fillets. an epoxy fillet coves out the inside corner where two plywood panels meet. applying fillets to join plywood panels in a boat is the "glue" part of "stitch-and-glue" construction; the process is messy but very easy, sort of like making mud pies.. Lay a radiused fillet of glue mix (no lightweight filler, just glue well thickened) along the full length of the area to be taped, straight over the ties and all. tidy up really well as you don’t want any leftover bumps in the road..
